Frequently asked questions
For financial institutions evaluating College Cash, and for the students and supporters who use it.
About College Cash
What does College Cash do?
College Cash is an engagement and behavioral intelligence platform for financial institutions. Institutions invite students and families into an institution-branded experience with financial education, savings-related tools, scholarship tracking, and interactive activities.
The patent-pending Signal Engine turns that engagement into product-specific readiness scores, explanations, and recommended next steps, so institutional staff can see which households may be ready for which financial product, and why.
Who are College Cash's customers?
Our customers are financial institutions: credit unions, community banks, and CDFIs. Students and their supporters use the platform through the institution that offers it.
How do students and supporters participate?
A participating institution invites students to join. Students complete financial education, use savings-related tools, track scholarships, and take part in interactive activities such as StackU.
Students can invite parents, grandparents, and other supporters, who get their own dashboard and activities. Supporters do not need to be members of the institution to take part.
The Signal Engine
How does the Signal Engine work?
It maps supported engagement events to related financial products, weights them, gives more weight to recent activity, combines activity across a linked household, and produces a readiness score for each product. Staff see the ranked households, the reasons behind each score, and a suggested next step.
For the full explanation, see How the Signal Engine Works.
Does the Signal Engine use AI?
The Signal Engine uses deterministic, explainable behavioral scoring and does not depend on generative AI to calculate product readiness.
Some other parts of the application, such as optional coaching features and content moderation, use generative AI. Those features are separate from readiness scoring.
What can institutional administrators see?
Authorized institutional staff see the participants connected to their institution, their role (student or supporter), product readiness scores, the recommended products, and the engagement events that contributed to each score. They also see program-level reporting such as enrollment and education activity.
Readiness is based on engagement within College Cash. It is not based on account balances or transactions at other financial institutions.
How are the Prairie Crest simulation results different from live results?
Prairie Crest Community Credit Union is a simulated institution with 7,500 fictional members. Its results come from a controlled model that compared age-based outreach with Signal Engine recommendations under the same conditions.
Simulation results are not live institutional performance. Outcomes depend on modeled relationships between behavioral activity and financial needs, and real-world effectiveness requires validation through institutional pilots.
Deployment
Does College Cash require core banking integration?
No. The standard College Cash engagement deployment does not require a core banking connection. Institutions still complete their normal vendor review and approval process.
How long does deployment take?
Deployment is targeted within approximately 30 days, subject to scope and institutional approvals.
Can the platform carry our institution's branding?
Yes. Institutional administrators can configure the institution's logo, primary brand color, and welcome message through existing administrative controls.
Does it work alongside our existing financial education or youth banking tools?
Yes. College Cash is designed to complement existing programs. Institutions can use the complete platform or selected modules. Using the Signal Engine with engagement from other programs depends on the required event data and technical access being available, and is scoped with each institution.
Pilot and Demonstrations
How does the Institutional Founding Pilot work?
The pilot runs for 12 months. It includes an institution-branded deployment in an agreed full-platform or modular configuration, student and supporter engagement, Signal Engine intelligence, the institutional dashboard, outcome tracking, defined success metrics, and periodic performance reviews.
Commercial terms are discussed directly with each institution. Contact us to discuss a pilot.
